In the sad event that the person who was managing the bank transfers for a GoFundMe fundraiser has passed away, we’re here to help. We’re so sorry for your loss and we want to make the process as simple as possible moving forward.
As the organiser or friend/family member of the deceased, you have two options when considering how to approach this situation and we’ll discuss each in detail to help you make a decision:
- Transfer the fundraiser to someone else
- End the fundraiser
For either option, please contact our team by clicking "Get help" and be prepared to send the documentation below, so that we can help you with the next steps.
Transfer the fundraiser to someone else
This is best if bank transfers were not yet set up by the beneficiary or if there are any remaining funds to be transferred. We can work together to add someone as the new beneficiary to receive the funds.
To follow this option, please gather the following documents:
- Official photo ID: A clear and unobstructed picture of the new beneficiary's driving licence, national identification card or passport.
- Obituary or the death certificate: Please note that the obituary or other documents will need to state the new beneficiary's relationship to the deceased.
- Will or legal documentation: A copy of the original beneficiary's documentation that provides information regarding their executor.
- Email address of the new account owner.
End the fundraiser
This is best if bank transfers have already been set up because any remaining donations will automatically be sent out using the bank account information the beneficiary had provided. At this point, it would be best to work with their bank to manage the funds.
To follow this option, please gather the following documents:
- Official photo ID: A clear and unobstructed picture of your own driving licence, national identification card or passport.
- Obituary or the death certificate: Please note that the obituary or other documents will need to state your relationship to the deceased.
