Set your GoFundMe up for Success
Create a clear title, see: How to Create a Catchy Title, and campaign story, see: 7 Tips for Writing a Captivating Story. Be sure to include the following:
- Who you are and where you are from
- How the funds will be spent to help you rebuild (be as specific as possible)
- How grateful you are for your community’s support
We recommend adding a photo of you as the main image, and include any photos of the damage in your story. It is important to choose photos that your friends and family can easily recognise so they know to click on your campaign when they see it shared on social media. Share with Friends and Family
Your first supporters will be the people in your life - your friends and family. This means that sharing your GoFundMe with your network should be your first step.
This can be through Facebook, text message, phone calls, social media and emails. If you are not able to access these due to the hurricane, contact a friend or family member and ask them to help spread the word on your behalf. See: How to Share your GoFundMe
Post Frequent Updates
It is important to keep your friends and family in the loop during a crisis, especially if regular communication channels have been cut off. Use the updates section of your campaign to share updates about your current situation. Include pictures and videos with the updates as well. See: How to Use Updates: The Key to Success
Withdraw your Funds
Once you have started raising funds, set up withdrawals. Withdrawals can take 2-5 business days to arrive at the bank account on file, so it is important to get these started as soon as possible! See: GoFundMe Guide: Getting my Money.

Making a withdrawal will not affect your GoFundMe. The total raised on the campaign will remain as is, and you can still accept donations (your GoFundMe will not automatically end until you choose to deactivate it). You only have to request a withdrawal once. Once you set-up your first withdrawal, donations will automatically be sent to you as they come in.
Pro Tip: Double check your banking information with your bank before submitting it! If you enter bank information incorrectly, it can delay your withdrawal.

Note: Managing a campaign will require access to internet, a phone and a withdrawal method (cheque or bank). We understand that the devastation caused by the hurricanes have left many without basic necessities, not to mention computers or technology. If you do not have access to these materials and need assistance, we urge you to ask a friend, family member or colleague to create a campaign on your behalf, or contact local relief organisations.
