Your name on GoFundMe

When creating a fundraiser, you'll enter your name in two places: 

1. When you set up your GoFundMe account: this name will be displayed publicly and can be a nickname or a shortened name.
2. When you set up your bank transfers: this name will remain private. It must be your legal name and match your ID and bank statement.

If you add a beneficiary to your fundraiser, their account name will also appear on the fundraiser page. This can be a nickname if the beneficiary would prefer that. Here are the steps for changing each of these names:

Changing your GoFundMe account name 

After signing in to your GoFundMe account, follow these steps to change the name that's displayed on your fundraising page:

1. Select your name at the top right of your screen (If you're on the GoFundMe app, tap the "Me" icon in the bottom right-hand corner.)
2. Select "Account settings" from the drop-down menu
3. Change your name and click "Save" at the bottom of the screen

Changing your name on bank transfers 

After signing in to your GoFundMe account, follow these steps to edit your bank transfer information:

1. Select "Transfers" and click "Edit" next to "Bank account"
2. Continue to your payment processor
3. Select the information you need to edit (personal details or bank details) and make the name change. Make sure that you save changes and then return to your GoFundMe account.

If your bank account doesn't use your full legal name as shown on your government-issued photo ID, please contact our team for help.

Changing the beneficiary name 

If a beneficiary has been added, their name on the fundraiser can’t be hidden but they can edit the name being displayed at any time. After the beneficiary signs in to their GoFundMe account, they can follow these steps to change the name shown on the fundraising page:

1. Select your name at the top right of your screen (If you're on the GoFundMe app, tap the "Me" icon in the bottom right-hand corner.)
2. Select "Account settings" from the drop-down menu
3. Change your name and click "Save" at the bottom of the screen
