How to edit your GoFundMe profile

You can edit your profile settings (name, profile picture, cover image, etc.), the causes you support, and the fundraisers and charity pages you share on your list. In this article we'll cover steps to edit different parts of your GoFundMe profile. We'll cover:

Visibility

Your profile’s default visibility will be private. Changing the visibility of profiles is easy, and having a public profile could inspire someone else to support the causes you care about. To edit your visibility, follow the steps below:

  1. Once logged into your GoFundMe account, choose “Profile” from the drop down menu in the top right corner
  2. Your current visibility will be displayed at the top of your profile
  3. Choose “Change visibility”, pick “Public” or “Private” and then be sure to “Save”

Your visibility settings will determine the information that people can see when visiting your profile.

When your profile is set to private, the following fields will appear when someone else views your profile:

  • Name
  • Profile photo (if added)
  • Cover photo (if added)

If your profile is private, it won’t be searchable on Google or GoFundMe. Only those who click on your profile from public actions you’ve taken on GoFundMe (such as donating or commenting, among others) will be able to see the fields mentioned above.

When your profile is set to public, the following fields and sections of the profile will appear when someone else views your profile:

  • Name
  • Profile photo
  • Cover photo
  • Bio
  • Inspired Number
  • Following and Follower Lists
  • Top causes
  • Highlights
  • Activity
  • Social handles

Edit your Profile settings

To start editing your profile, use the edit pencil button below your name. You'll be able to edit your profile picture, visibility, name, bio, and URL.

Profile photo or cover image

  1. Tap "Change" next to your profile photo or cover image, and then choose from images on your device
  2. Adjust your photo and click “Save”

The profile photo you choose will change across your whole GoFundMe account. If you choose to create a fundraiser, your profile photo will display underneath the main fundraiser image.

Profile name and location

  1. Click within the text boxes of either section
  2. Make your edits or additions
  3. Click "Save"

Profile URL

  1. Click "Edit" in the "Profile URL" section
  2. Customise your URL or accept our suggestion
  3. Click "Save"
  4. Add your custom URL anywhere you want people to find your GoFundMe profile. We recommend adding it to your social media bios.

Things to keep in mind for your URL:

  • Don’t worry if you already gave your old profile link to people. They can still access your profile with the link you shared before.
  • We recommend making your URL consistent with your online presence (e.g. Instagram handle) so it’s easier to find.
  • You can only make a custom URL once. If you want to change it again, reach out to our support team using the contact button below.
  • If you’re a celebrity or high profile individual and cannot set your name as your URL, please reach out to support so we can help you try to claim your URL.

What I care about

Once you’ve set your profile images, you can choose cause areas you’re passionate about and share a bit about why you care for them in your intro. To edit your “What I care about” section, follow the steps below:

  1. Navigate to your profile by selecting "Profile" from the top right menu in your GoFundMe account
  2. Scroll to the "What I care about" section and select “Add intro”
  3. Type your intro (you have 160 characters) and choose the cause areas you care about most
  4. Click "Save"

My featured causes

Your featured causes are a list of the fundraisers and charities you want to display on your profile. When you create your profile, your featured causes are pre-populated with fundraisers and charities you’ve supported previously. These will be updated on an ongoing basis to include fundraisers and charities you support non-anonymously. These causes can be hidden from your profile at any time. To manage your featured causes, follow the steps below:

  1. Navigate to your profile by selecting "Profile" from the top right menu in your GoFundMe account
  2. Scroll to the “My featured causes” section and select “Add links”
  3. Select "Add links" again to add new fundraisers or Charity Pages to your list

You can also pin your top cause with these steps:

  1. From your “Edit featured causes” page, choose the horizontal dot menu on the cause you’d like to pin
  2. From the drop down menu, choose “Pin to top”

You can also edit featured causes or Charity Pages already on your list by clicking the horizontal dots beside each fundraiser.

Activity

Your activity is automatically updated on your profile based on your behaviour on GoFundMe. Non-anonymous donations, fundraisers you organise, and actions you take on your profile, like pinning, will appear on the activity section of your profile. If your profile is private, none of your activity will be visible.

Check out this article for instructions on how to manage your profile activity.

Delete your profile

If you no longer wish to have a profile, you’ll need to delete your GoFundMe account. If you’re running a fundraiser and need your GoFundMe account to remain active, you’ll want to set your profile to private, and then the information other than your name, profile photo, and cover image won’t be publicly visible.
