With that in mind, we recommend that you have a verified destination for funds raised before starting a GoFundMe fundraiser.

Before setting up a GoFundMe fundraiser, ask yourself these important questions:

  1. Are you in contact with the individual/individuals you are raising funds for?
  2. Are you in contact with the family of the individual/individuals you are raising funds for?
  3. Is there already an active fundraiser for the individual you are raising funds for that you can donate to?

If the answer to the first or second question is yes, you’re welcome to launch your GoFundMe fundraiser. For more information on how to set up a fundraiser while building trust with your community, make sure that you read this article.

If you answered no to the above questions but would still like to help by creating a GoFundMe fundraiser, we encourage you to be clear about the following:

  1. Who is withdrawing the money
  2. How that person is related to the parties you're raising funds for
  3. How the money will be transferred to the parties you're raising funds for or be used on their behalf (be specific as possible)

This will build trust with your donors and help our Trust & Safety team to quickly review your fundraiser in the future.
