How charity fundraiser payouts work
All funds raised on a charity fundraiser will be sent to our payment partner, PayPal Giving Fund, who will process and deliver the funds directly to the charity. As the fundraiser organiser, you will not be withdrawing the money directly on GoFundMe. You can read more about what PayPal Giving Fund is by reading this article.
Charity fundraisers are available in the US, UK Canada and Australia. To find out about charity fundraiser fees, visit our Charity Fundraiser fees article.
I do not work for the charity
If you’re simply fundraising on behalf of the charity, you don’t need to do anything else to make sure they get the money you’ve raised. PayPal Giving Fund will handle the delivery of funds to the benefiting charity, either by mailing a cheque or depositing it in their PayPal account.
Important note: You will not have a withdraw button on your charity fundraiser, since funds are not withdrawn on GoFundMe. If you want to know if your chosen charity is enrolled in PayPal Giving Fund, you can reach out to PayPal Giving Fund with the links provided at the end of this article.
You do not not need to end your fundraiser for donations to be sent.
I work for the charity
You have options to determine the method and speed of payouts from PayPal Giving Fund to your organisation. You will not have a withdraw button on your charity fundraiser.
If you are not enroled with PayPal Giving Fund, or would prefer not to go through the process of enroling, the funds will be sent to you via cheque after a verification process. This takes 3-5 months after your first donation date on GoFundMe, and will be sent to the address you have on file with public records.
For charities enroled with PayPal Giving Fund, the money will be disbursed to their PayPal account at the end of each month. Money donated through the 15th of the month is sent to the charity’s PayPal account that same month. Any donations received after the 15th will be paid out the following month. After the funds are in the charity’s PayPal account, they’ll be able to use the funds in PayPal, transfer the money to a bank account, or have a cheque mailed to them.
We recommend enrolment to receive funds most quickly. A financial administrator belonging to the charity should sign up with the PayPal Giving Fund using these steps:
- Create a PayPal account or make sure that your [existing PayPal account is upgraded to a business account here](https://www.paypal.com/bizsignup/#/checkAccount)
- Once you've set up your PayPal Business account, you'll need to confirm that your PayPal account belongs to a charity. Becoming a confirmed charity with PayPal also allows you to qualify for PayPal's special discounted charity rate. You can confirm your charity's status by visiting this link: https://www.paypal.com/charities/getstarted (After you submit, PayPal will review your documents and reply by email within five business days.)
After you receive an email verifying that your charity status has been confirmed with PayPal, your charity will be reviewed for enrolment with PayPal Giving Fund. If you are eligible, you will receive an additional email within approximately 2 business days. This email will confirm your successful enrolment with [PayPal Giving Fund UK](https://www.paypal.com/uk/webapps/mpp/givingfund/home).
You can find lots of information on PayPal Giving Fund here, including the steps above, an FAQ section, and a helpful video
If you have any questions or trouble with the enrolment process, you can contact PayPal Giving Fund with the links below. You will want to specify that your request is for PayPal Giving Fund or for a charity. From there, they can direct you to the service team that can assist you.
