Supporters love reading updates on your cause, and donors appreciate seeing their donations in action. Updates are a great way to keep your donors, supporters, and visitors aware of your progress, while motivating them to help.
Use updates to rally support. Ask your supporters to share, and create community around your GoFundMe. An excellent side effect of these updates is continued momentum. If your supporters see your GoFundMe is making progress, they'll want to share again, to help you reach your goal!
All Updates Should Include:
- A thank you for the support so far
- An update on how things are going, or a celebration of something positive that’s happened.
- A call to action! (Like, share my campaign, donate to my campaign, send it to 5 friends.)
Pro Tip: Include photos and videos to engage your community, and encourage them to continue visiting your GoFundMe. See: How do I add pictures or videos to my campaign?
Here are some ideas for what to post an update about:
- Let your supporters know how grateful you are for their help so far.
- Give an update on how you (or your beneficiary) is doing - and share a photo!
- Simply ask supporters to continue sharing the campaign to get the word out - this is the most important thing.
And, if applicable: - Share some of the kind comments that donors have posted with their donations.
- Let supporters know how much monetary progress you’ve made, and that even a $5 donation or share will get you closer to fulfilling your goal!
Pro tip: Post an Update every 3-4 days, or when something important happens around your cause. And, always post an Update at the end of your campaign thanking your supporters! Not sure what to say? See: 9 Message Templates to Share Right Now

Pro tip: When you post an Update, if you leave the green circles filled in, your Facebook, Twitter, and GoFundMe contacts (donors and subscribers) will be notified. Un-click the circles, if you don’t want that to happen. We recommend leaving these circles filled in, so you can share your content far and wide, and drive more traffic to your GoFundMe.
