If you created a GoFundMe account before 2018 and have not created new fundraisers since then, you may still be connected to our previous pricing model, which includes a 5% platform fee. GoFundMe's 5% platform fee has been eliminated in the US, Canada, Australia, UK, and most major European countries.
Current pricing by country and currency can be seen on our pricing page here. GoFundMe accounts located in Austria, Belgium, Denmark, Finland, Luxembourg, Norway, Portugal, Sweden, and Switzerland still have a 5% platform fee and are not eligible to switch to 0% at this time.
How to update your account
If you are located in a country that has updated to our tipping model, and your account was created after 2018, you will already be on our new pricing model. But, if your account is older, creating a new GoFundMe account is the best way to ensure you are up to date. To do this, you can either delete your old GoFundMe account and create a new account using the same email address, or you can create a new GoFundMe account using a different email address. Using a different email address will allow you to access the old account if you’d like to.
What is GoFundMe’s current fee structure?
Our new pricing model is based on a transaction fee plus the option to leave us a voluntary tip.
The transaction fee (which includes debit and credit charges) per donation is set up by country and currency. For example, the transaction fee in the US is 2.9% + USD $0.30 per donation. Please refer to our pricing page here for current pricing. The transaction fee is used to help us ensure that money transfers made on our site are securely processed and verified, usually by a third-party payment processor. Transaction fees are taken from each donation in real-time, so fundraiser beneficiaries do not need to worry about getting billed or owing money for the transaction fees. Beneficiaries receive all funds raised minus the transaction fees.
Additionally, we believe that the people who come to our site see and appreciate the value of our services. So, in countries that no longer have a 5% platform fee, GoFundMe provides donors with the option to leave us a voluntary tip. Donors’ voluntary tips are in addition to their donations and, therefore, have no effect on how much money beneficiaries receive. We use these tips to help us operate the company and provide an effective, safe, and secure experience for all our users around the world.
