If the person who was managing the withdrawals for a GoFundMe campaign passes away, we can help you to transfer the campaign to someone else or end the campaign. Keep in mind, if the beneficiary had already set up withdrawals, any remaining donations will be automatically be sent out using the information on file on the beneficiary's account. When this happens, it's best to simply close the account.
To request a campaign closure for the person who has passed away, you will need to send us the following:
- A clear and unobstructed picture of your government-issued photo ID.
- A copy of documents stating the account holder is deceased. This can be the obituary or the death certificate. Please note that the obituary, or other documents, will need to state your relationship to the deceased.
If withdrawals were not set up and you would like to set up a different family member to withdraw the balance, please collect the following documentation:
- A clear and unobstructed picture of the new beneficiary's government-issued photo ID.
- A copy of documents stating the account holder is deceased. This can be the obituary or the death certificate. Please note that the obituary, or other documents, will need to state the new beneficiary's relationship to the deceased.
- A letter stating that the account holder is deceased and whether the new account owner would like to refund or transfer ownership to themselves.
- A copy of the account holder's will or legal documentation that provides the information regarding their executor.
- The email address for the new account owner.
