How to tell if there is incorrect bank information on file
If you’ve entered your bank information, and are still having trouble receiving withdrawals, there could be an issue with the account details you’ve entered. If you’ve received a withdrawal confirmation email and then receive a follow up email titled “Action Required: Set up withdrawals by DATE,” this means that the initial withdrawal has failed, and you’ll need to re-enter your bank information.
Additionally, if you enter your bank information, and are prompted to provide your bank details again when you log back into your GoFundMe account, this is also a sign of incorrect bank information. If our payment partner attempts to send funds to incorrect bank information, then the withdrawal will be rejected by your bank. When this happens, to prevent additional funds from being sent to incorrect bank information, our payment partner will proactively clear the bank information from your GoFundMe account. This is to protect you from potentially lost funds and cut down on the amount of time you might have to wait to receive funds after a failed withdrawal.
It means our payment partner has tried to send the funds, but when the funds were rejected, they proactively cleared your bank information from your GoFundMe account so that funds won’t continue to send to the incorrect place.
GoFundMe does not verify whether the information entered is accurate, so make sure to double check your details and only enter your own banking information! If you think you’ve entered your name differently between your personal and bank details, please take a look at this article.
How to edit your bank information
If you believe your funds are sending to incorrect bank information: please follow these steps right away to update your bank details:
- Sign in to your GoFundMe account here
- Select the "Withdraw" button
- Select the "View withdrawal overview" button
- Select the edit or pencil icon next to "Account Info"
- Enter your new bank account information and save the changes
Please note, once you’ve updated your bank information to the correct details, this does not mean that funds will be sent again right away. When funds are sent using incorrect bank information, it can take up to 10 business days for the receiving bank to reject the transfer and send it back to your GoFundMe account.
Rest assured, once the funds have returned, they will be sent again using your updated information. It will then take another 2-5 business days for your funds to arrive in your account.
