Raising funds for an Irish Charity

How to get funds to an Irish charity organisation

If you're one of the countless individuals, businesses, or organisations that have decided to raise funds for charity, crowdfunding can help. If you haven’t already signed up, the process is quick and easy, allowing you to get your fundraiser up and running in a matter of minutes.

Charity fundraising is now available in Ireland so it's even easier to fundraise for your favourite charities. To set up a charity fundraiser, you will need to choose "Nonprofit or organisation" and fill out the charity's information on the fundraiser creation page . Be careful to make sure you’re selecting the correct organisation, since we cannot direct the funds to another organisation once raised.

If you don’t see the organisation listed, you will need to ask the person in charge of the finances at the organisation to enroll with PayPal Giving Fund.

How charity fundraiser payouts work

All funds raised on a charity fundraiser will be sent to our payment partner, PayPal Giving Fund, who will process and deliver the funds directly to the charity. As the fundraiser organiser, you will not be withdrawing the money directly on GoFundMe. You can read more about what PayPal Giving Fund is by reading this article.

Charity fundraisers are available in the US, UK, Ireland, Canada and Australia. To find out about charity fundraiser fees, visit our pricing page

I do not work for the charity

If you’re simply fundraising on behalf of the charity, you don’t need to do anything else to make sure they get the money you’ve raised. PayPal Giving Fund will handle the delivery of funds to the benefiting charity, either by mailing a cheque or depositing it in their PayPal account.

Important note: You will not have a withdraw button on your charity fundraiser, since funds are not withdrawn on GoFundMe. If you want to know if your chosen charity is enroled in PayPal Giving Fund, you can reach out to PayPal Giving Fund with the links provided at the end of this article.

You do not not need to end your fundraiser for donations to be sent.

I work for the charity

You have options to determine the method and speed of payouts from PayPal Giving Fund to your organisation. You will not have a withdraw button on your charity fundraiser.

If you are not enroled with PayPal Giving Fund,  or would prefer not to go through the process of enroling, the funds will be sent to you via cheque after a verification process. This takes 3-5 months after your first donation date on GoFundMe, and will be sent to the address you have on file with public records.

For charities enroled with PayPal Giving Fund, the money will be disbursed to their PayPal account at the end of each month. Money donated through the 15th of the month is sent to the charity’s PayPal account that same month. Any donations received after the 15th will be paid out the following month. After the funds are in the charity’s PayPal account, they’ll be able to use the funds in PayPal, transfer the money to a bank account, or have a cheque mailed to them. We recommend enrolment to receive funds most quickly. You can learn more about that here.
