Sharing your GoFundMe on social media
Sharing your GoFundMe with your social network is often the key to success when crowdfunding. The more you share, the wider the audience will be for your GoFundMe. You might not be sure where to start, but luckily, we have some tips to make sharing on social media easy.
Facebook, Instagram, and X are the most commonly used platforms for sharing, and they’re a great way to get the word out, but there are many more as well, so choose the platform that works best for you. Each platform has its own capabilities, such as posting a story or “going live”. You should choose whichever option you feel most comfortable with, but the important thing is to make sure you speak from the heart and explain why you’re raising funds.
How to share on social media
- Use the "Share fundraiser" button on your Manage dashboard. Depending on the way you choose to share, GoFundMe will generate sharing options for you, including posters, videos, and messages.
- Post on your Facebook timeline with your fundraiser link and a brief description.
- Create a post on your Instagram and choose a compelling photo to accompany it.
- Add to your Instagram story a couple times a week, or even daily, with your sharing poster and updates about your fundraiser. Be sure to include a clickable link sticker in your story too!
- Post on X with the link to your fundraiser and a call to action in your post.
- Add your fundraiser link to the bio section on all social media platforms, which can be done in your social media account’s settings.
For all of the options listed above, be sure to include something along the lines of “Please consider donating to my GoFundMe and sharing with your friends and family.”
Stay safe while sharing
GoFundMe and any social media platforms on which you share are public, which means bad actors can view both your fundraiser and any posts you make about it. Occasionally, bad actors may try to contact you through social media to advertise crowdfunding help. GoFundMe will never offer fundraiser promotion for a fee, and we don’t condone or suggest using any services that do.
Keep the following tips in mind when sharing on social media:
- Never share your GoFundMe account or personal and bank details over social media.
- Don't engage with individuals offering to promote your fundraiser for a fee.
- Don't click on any links sent in DMs unless you trust the sender.
Sharing your fundraiser on social media is incredibly important to reach your goal, and we want you to feel confident and safe while sharing. Following our tips will help you to avoid bad actors, but if you do come across something suspicious, please let our team know at accountsecurity@gofundme.com.
