Your name on GoFundMe

When creating a fundraiser, you'll enter your name in two places: 

1. When you set up your GoFundMe account: This name will show publicly and can be a nickname or shortened name.
2. When you set up your bank transfers: This name will remain private. It must be your legal name and match your ID and bank statement.

If you add a beneficiary to your fundraiser, their account name will also appear on the fundraiser page. This can be a nickname if the beneficiary would prefer. Here are the steps for changing each of these names:

Changing your GoFundMe account name 

After signing into your GoFundMe account, follow these steps to change the name that shows on your fundraising page:

1. Select the menu at the top right of your screen (If you're on the GoFundMe app, tap the “Me” icon in the bottom right corner.)
2. Select "Settings"
3. Select "Edit" next to your name
4. Make your name edits and select "Save"

Changing your name on bank transfers 

After signing into your GoFundMe account, follow these steps to edit your bank transfer information:

1. Select "Transfers" and click "Edit" next to your bank account
2. Continue to your payment processor
3. Select the information you need to edit (personal details or bank details) and make the needed name change. Be sure to save changes and then return to your GoFundMe account.

If your bank account doesn't use your full legal name as shown on your government issued photo ID, please contact our team for help.

Changing the beneficiary name 

If a beneficiary has been added, their name on the fundraiser can’t be hidden, but they can edit the name shown at any time. After the beneficiary signs into their GoFundMe account, they can follow these steps to change the name shown on the fundraising page:

1. Select the menu at the top right of your screen (If you're on the GoFundMe app, tap the “Me” icon in the bottom right corner.)
2. Select "Settings"
3. Select "Edit" next to your name
4. Make your name edits and select "Save"
