Trouble accepting a beneficiary invitation

When an organizer adds you as a beneficiary, you'll receive an email titled "An invitation to accept money." Click "Accept money" in that email, sign into or create a GoFundMe account, and then set up your bank transfers.

If that process isn't working, the steps below will help you figure out what's happening.

Step 1: Check your spam or junk folder

If you never received the invite email, check your spam or junk folder. The invitation email is sometimes filtered by email providers before it reaches your inbox. Search your spam, junk, or promotions folder for an email from GoFundMe with the subject line "An invitation to accept money for..."

If you find it there, mark it as not spam and then click "Accept money" to continue.

Step 2: Confirm the email address with the organizer

If you can't locate the email in your inbox, the organizer may have sent the invitation to a different email address than you expected. Ask them to confirm which address they used.

If it went to the wrong address, the organizer will need to cancel the current invitation and send a new one to the correct address. See how the organizer can cancel and resend below.

Step 3: Confirm you can withdraw in the same currency as the fundraiser

Funds raised on GoFundMe can’t be withdrawn across currencies. For example, a fundraiser started in the United States can’t add a beneficiary in Canada because the currencies are different.

If the currency in your country is different than the fundraiser, decline the invitation, and then you can work with the organizer for them to withdraw the funds and send them to you outside of GoFundMe.

If you and the fundraiser are based in different countries that use Euros, you should be able to accept a beneficiary invitation from a different country. If you’re having trouble accepting a beneficiary invitation in this scenario, please use the “Contact us” button to get in touch with our team.

Step 4: Try accepting the invitation again (the link may have expired)

If you received the invitation email but the link is no longer working, it's possible the invitation has expired. Beneficiary invitations expire after 30 days. If it’s been more than 30 days since the invite was sent, ask the organizer to resend the invite from within their GoFundMe account.

Step 5: Check if you already have a GoFundMe account

If you already have a GoFundMe account with the email address the invitation was sent to, you may see the following error:

This happens when the organizer account and the existing beneficiary account are linked to different payment processors. GoFundMe works with two different payment processors, Stripe and Adyen, to support swift payouts and payouts in different countries. Funds can’t be sent between the different payment processors.

If you’re seeing this error, you can do one of the following:

  1. Delete your current GoFundMe account if you no longer need access to it. This will free up that email address to create a new GoFundMe account linked to the fundraiser where you’re the beneficiary.
  2. Have the organizer send the beneficiary invitation to a different email address. You’ll create a new GoFundMe account with the new email.

How the organizer can cancel and resend the invitation

If any of the steps above require the organizer to cancel and resend, here's how:

  1. Have the organizer log into their GoFundMe account and select "Your fundraisers" from the menu in the top right corner.
  2. Choose the fundraiser for the beneficiary invitation
    • US fundraisers: Select "Fundraiser" > "Transfers"
    • All other countries: Select "Transfers"
  3. Select "Cancel invite" under the pending beneficiary invitation.
  4. Send a new invitation to the correct email address
