How to donate with your Donor-Advised Fund (DAF)

GoFundMe now has the option for you to donate using your Donor Advised Fund (DAF). If you have an account and are signed in when you donate, you can easily keep track of and manage your donations.

What’s a Donor Advised Fund (DAF)? A donor-advised fund (DAF) is a charitable savings account with tax advantages much like a 401(k). Think of it like filling a giving bucket that you can pour into charities over time, while getting the benefits of tax-deductible donations immediately, and seeing the money in your DAF account be invested and grow tax-free. Donors can contribute to their DAF as often as they like, and then grant DAF money to their favorite 501(c)3 nonprofits immediately, or over time.

Keep in mind, DAF donations are only available in the United States for charity fundraisers where a 501(c)(3) public charity is connected.

Follow these steps to donate:

1. Find an eligible charity fundraiser and select “Donate now”
2. Select "DAFpay - Donor Advised Fund"
3. You will be directed to our payment partner, Chariot, to select your DAF provider.
4. You will sign into your DAF provider with the same log-in information you use when you sign-in directly on their platform.
5. Enter the amount you’d like to donate and select the DAF payment method
6. Complete your donation, and you will be redirected back to GoFundMe. Your GoFundMe donation receipt will have a tracking link where you’ll be able to track your donation directly.

*If you don’t see your DAF provider available on the list to choose from, you won’t be able to donate using your DAF at this time, but you can still donate via PayPal or a major credit or debit card.

Now that you’ve made your donation, you’ll be able to share the fundraiser and leave words of support.

• Share the fundraiser: Sharing the fundraiser will help to promote it, which can help raise more funds. Just choose one of the options under “Now help spread the word”.
• Add words of support: These will be publicly visible on the fundraiser page. Click “Continue” on the sharing page, and then type your message under “Show more support”.
