Receiving charity fundraiser payouts

GoFundMe offers two different types of fundraisers for organizations. One is a standard GoFundMe fundraiser, and the other is a charity fundraiser. To learn more about the differences between the two fundraiser types and how to set each type up, please read more here.

This article covers the following topics:

  • How charity fundraiser payouts work
  • How to send funds to the charity
  • Enrolling with PayPal Giving Fund

How charity fundraiser withdrawals work

All funds raised on a charity fundraiser will be sent to our payment partner, PayPal Giving Fund, who will process and deliver the funds directly to the charity. As the fundraiser organizer, you will not be withdrawing the money directly on GoFundMe.

Charity fundraisers are available in the US, UK Canada and Australia. To find out about charity fundraiser fees, visit our Charity Fundraiser fees article.

I do not work for the charity

If you’re simply fundraising on behalf of the charity, you don’t need to do anything else to make sure they get the money you’ve raised. PayPal Giving Fund will handle the delivery of funds to the benefiting charity, either by mailing a check or depositing it in their PayPal account.

Important note: You will not have a withdraw button on your charity fundraiser, since funds are not withdrawn on GoFundMe. If you want to know if your chosen charity is enrolled in PayPal Giving Fund, you can reach out to PayPal Giving Fund with the links provided at the end of this article.

You do not not need to end your fundraiser for donations to be sent.

I work for the charity

You have options to determine the method and speed of payouts from PayPal Giving Fund to your organization. You will not have a withdraw button on your charity fundraiser.

If you are not enrolled with PayPal Giving Fund,  or would prefer not to go through the process of enrolling, the funds will be sent to you via check after a verification process. This takes 3-5 months after your first donation date on GoFundMe, and will be sent to the address you have on file with public records.

For charities enrolled with PayPal Giving Fund, the money will be disbursed to their PayPal account at the end of each month. Money donated through the 15th of the month is sent to the charity’s PayPal account that same month. Any donations received after the 15th will be paid out the following month. After the funds are in the charity’s PayPal account, they’ll be able to use the funds in PayPal, transfer the money to a bank account, or have a check mailed to them.

To receive a payout the same month of enrollment, you will need to complete enrollment by the 10th of the month. Otherwise, the funds will be paid out the following month.
