Raising funds for a nonprofit

Nonprofit fundraisers can only be run in the US, Canada, the UK, Ireland, and Australia. Fundraisers for nonprofits in other countries will need to set up a personal fundraiser instead.

There are two ways to raise funds for a nonprofit on GoFundMe. You can either start a personal fundraiser, which means funds are sent to a personal or business/organization bank account, or a nonprofit fundraiser, which means funds are sent directly to the nonprofit through PayPal Giving Fund, or directly to the nonprofit if they are based in the US and have enabled GoFundMe Pay.

To start a nonprofit fundraiser, make sure the organization you’d like to benefit is part of our database. Fees are slightly different for nonprofit fundraisers, so please review our pricing policy before making your decision.

How to set up a nonprofit fundraiser through GoFundMe

  1. Go to our Charity fundraising page and click "Start a GoFundMe"
  2. Search for and select the nonprofit you'd like to support, then click "Continue"
  3. You'll be prompted to sign in, and then you can choose to start with or without an occasion, and we'll create your fundraiser page for you
    • We offer easy-to-use occasion templates where you can fundraise for a nonprofit for your birthday, graduation, wedding, or for a memorial.
  4. Review the fundraiser we've started for you, and click "Continue"
  5. Opt in or out of messaging from the nonprofit you're fundraising for, and then click "Complete fundraiser"

How to set up a nonprofit fundraiser through a nonprofit's peer-to-peer campaign (only available in the US):

  1. Visit the peer-to-peer fundraising link the nonprofit you're supporting shared with you and click "Start a fundraiser"
  2. Enter your first and last name and email address, then click "Launch fundraiser"
  3. GoFundMe will draft a fundraiser for you, and you'll be prompted to claim it by either signing into an already existing GoFundMe account or creating a new one
  4. Once claimed, you can edit and manage your fundraiser and start sharing with your network

What if I set up a personal fundraiser by accident?

Unfortunately, we can’t convert a personal fundraiser to a nonprofit fundraiser once funds are raised, even if done by accident. If you know someone from the organization who can withdraw the funds, you can add them as the beneficiary. Otherwise, the best course of action is to send the funds to your bank account and deliver them to the nonprofit outside of GoFundMe. While it may not have been your first choice, it can be rewarding to deliver the funds in a personal way!
